Sorry, nothing in cart.
As decades of Hollywood’s finest men and women can attest, the tuxedo suit (or Le Smoking as it is known in France) has a charm that’s perhaps as timeless as red carpet fashion gets. As of late, though, that classic black tie dress code is getting a much needed shake up. Take the outfit that Pose star Billy Porter wore to the Oscars this year, for example: a velvet Christian Siriano tuxedo jacket paired with a strapless velvet gown no less.
Following in Porter’s footsteps, Dua Lipa stepped out on the Amazon Prime Day concert red carpet in New York City yesterday in a Saint Laurent tuxedo-cum-minidress that puts a leggy spin on the tailored look. Lipa accentuated the plunging pants-less ensemble with some dainty polka-dotted tights and platform patent leather heels. In her hands, what could have been just another anonymous tux looked fresher (and sparklier) than ever—and seemed perfectly weather appropriate sans trousers. It’s for sure a failsafe way to make suiting in the summer look cool.
